This last year I explored several possibilities within the snowball block. I came across a wonderful version from Catherine-Marie Longtin that you can see here. I love Catherine’s quilts and quilt studies and was inspired by her for this project. I did not want to use paper piecing on this project. I detail my process below with instructions.
This project required a little organization - nicely marked piles and some chalk pencils. It felt a bit like a paint by numbers project. Please feel free to be inspired by this project as I was inspired by others. While I am giving general directions here I quilt by the principle that no quilt of mine will be an exact replica of another. That doesn’t mean I think patterns are wrong, but for me, they aren’t fun. I hope this helps you find your own point of view. Iterating on a design is the soul of most art.
